Tuesday Tumbling Terms ~ Resources

It's Tuesday Tumbling Terms for the writer. Our word today is ...

 Resources
Noun
A stock or supply of money, materials, staff, and other assets that can be drawn on by a person or organization in order to function...
Verb
Provide (a person or organization) with materials, money, staff, and other assets necessary for effective operation.

Resources are invaluable to the writer. I don't care what you are writing about you have to have resources at your finger tips to write. In the old days, back when I first started writing, there were things like the unabridged Webster's Dictionary, a good thesaurus, encyclopedias, and reference materials. I spent a lot of time in libraries back then.

Today we have the world wide web. We can scan through millions of libraries without ever leaving home. We can access time period clothing and speech patterns, chat with other authors, connect with readers and even write a diary of sorts...blogging all courtesy of the web.

So what does a writer in these modern times need in their writer's toolbox in the way of resources... a computer with Internet connection. But wait, not every home has a computer, Internet, or someone who knows how to operate one. This is true. Well, there's always the public library or local bookstore. But I'll ignore those folks for right now, because they ain't reading this blog without the before mentioned items.  Shh, if you don't tell them; they won't know.

How do you narrow your search down to a reasonable, usable data to what you are truly looking for? I tend to put a lot of words in my searches from general to very specific. The items that first come up generally are considered best fit. This is where keywords come in handy. This sets up the search criteria. Think of it as a bibliophile to the Internet. You'd never find what you wanted just flipping through all the billions of websites out there. That would just be insane. You'd have better odds finding a needle in a haystack.

Whether you want books, information, or just read for pleasure the power available with a couple of clicks is unbelievable. It's more like science fiction than science fact. For me, this tops off as number 1 in resources for writers.

Keep writing and loving the Lord.
